The Three Peaks of Yorkshire
Horton-In-Ribblesdale, nr Settle
Registration for 3 Peaks 09
Most people will start and finish this circular challenge walk from Horton-In-Ribblesdale. Horton is just a 6 miles north of Settle on the A6479. Horton has a small selection of Inns, B&B's and some bunkhouses and a campsite (on the Pennine Way).
Groups and individuals not taking part in an organised event may wish to start and finish at the Pen-Y-Ghent Cafe, making use of it's famous antique 'clocking' machine to record their eventual challenge times. Groups wishing to take part in an organised event with no fundraising committment should check out the Open Three Peaks Challenge website.
Parking in Horton can be problematic at busy periods, so try to arrive in as few vehicles as possible. There is a Pay & Display car park in the village, and during very busy times you may be able to park in a farmers field for a small charge.
The challenge route is normally completed in an anti-clockwise direction, meaning you will visit Pen-Y-Ghent, Birkwith, Ribblehead, Whernside, Chapel-Le-Dale and Ingleborough in that order.

The route from Horton.
From your car, walk to the south end of the village (towards Settle) and see the green pub on your right (the Golden Lion), and the church pictured on your left. Turn left on the main road, and after 100m cross a river then turn left into a lane heading for Brackenbottom. Just before you reach the farm, turn left onto a well used track, heading directly towards Pen-Y-Ghent.
Continue up the obvious track, as it turns to path, through fields and still heading directly towards Pen-Y-Ghent which you should be able to see. After about 2km the path climbs steeply to a junction with the Pennine Way.
Turn left here and climb the obvious track to the summit of Pen-Y-Ghent at 694m. Well done..!
