The Three Peaks of Yorkshire.
Whernside
Over the beck to Whernside...
After the hard slog across the moss, you will be happy to reach Birkwith and the good track leading to the tarmac road, leading to Ribblehead, and the famous viaduct. Food is often available from a catering trailer at the 'T' junction car park, or of course from the Inn. From here on, the paths and tracks are well maintained, as you walk beside the railway, then up past the spectacular waterfalls and keep climbing steadily to the summit of Whernside at 728 metres, the highest point of the day, and roughly halfway through your challenge.
The descent from here is rocky and rough underfoot, and a real test of endurance. Anyone found struggling at this point should seriously consider a taxi ride home from Chapel-Le-Dale, as to push on over Ingleborough could invite disaster, and a very unhappy Cave Rescue Team...
If you are still happy to continue, follow the tarmac road to Chapel-Le-Dale, and head on towards Ingleborough...
